Winter Hair Care: My Favorite Clean Products to Keep Your Hair Thriving
Winter in Southern California might not mean snow, but our hair still feels the effects of the season—drier air, indoor heating, and that occasional static that makes everything stand on end. After 12 years behind the chair, I've learned that winter is when our hair needs the most intentional nourishment.
Here are the clean products I'm loving right now to help you (and my own hair!) stay hydrated and healthy through the cooler months:
This is my go-to shampoo when hair is feeling particularly parched. What I love about it is how it cleanses without stripping—it's got that perfect balance of effective but gentle. The coconut oil and shea butter base means your hair gets clean while actually getting some moisture back. I use this on myself between salon visits and recommend it to clients who are dealing with winter dryness or anyone with naturally dry, curly, or coarse textures.
This pairs beautifully with the Hairbath, but honestly, I sometimes use it as a mid-week mask too. The monoi oil in this is chef's kiss for adding slip and softness. If your hair tangles easily in winter or feels a bit straw-like, this is going to change things for you. I love that it's deeply moisturizing without weighing hair down—something that's hard to find in clean products.
Winter static is real, and this is my secret weapon. It's a gel that doesn't feel like a gel—it gives hold and definition while actually combating frizz and flyaways. I use it on almost every client after styling because it keeps everything smooth and in place without crunch. A little goes a long way, and it works on all hair types. Plus, it smells like the beach, which is a nice reminder that summer will come back eventually.
If you're only going to add one thing to your routine this winter, make it a leave-in. This one is lightweight but mighty—sage and tamanu oil help soothe dry, itchy scalps (super common in winter) while adding another layer of moisture to your lengths. I spray this on damp hair before styling, and it makes everything that comes after work better. It's also amazing for refreshing day-two hair.
For my fine-haired friends who worry that heavy winter products will weigh them down—this is your answer. It's lighter than the Hydrating Conditioner but still gives that moisture boost you need. I love recommending this to clients who want to stay hydrated without sacrificing volume. The pumpkin seed oil is gentle and nourishing without being too rich.
A Quick Winter Hair Tip: Don't forget that your scalp needs love too. If you're experiencing dryness or flakiness, try applying a bit of the Sweet Spirit Leave-In directly to your scalp before bed a couple times a week. It's been a game-changer for me and my clients.
All of these products align with my holistic, ammonia-free approach to hair—they're clean, effective, and they actually work with your hair's natural health instead of against it.
Your hair is on a journey, and winter is just one season of it. With a little extra care and the right products, you can come out of these months with hair that's stronger, healthier, and ready for spring.
As always, if you have questions about what might work best for your specific hair, just ask me at your next appointment. That's what I'm here for.
