How To Refresh Your Curls Between Wash Days (My Favorite Method)

Let's be honest — wash day takes effort. The good news is you don't have to do it every day to have great curls. With the right refresh routine, you can bring your curls back to life in just a couple of minutes using two simple things. Here's exactly what I tell my clients to do.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• A rosewater and aloe mist — I love Superwater by Cult & King, but any rosewater spray with aloe vera works beautifully. You can even find affordable options at your local health food store.

• A lightweight hair oil — just a few drops is all you need. (Such as my own brand of Argan Oil)

THE REFRESH METHOD

Step 1: Spritz with your rosewater aloe mist Lightly mist your curls all over with your rosewater and aloe spray. You want them damp — not soaking wet, just enough moisture to reactivate the curl. The aloe helps smooth frizz while the rosewater adds a boost of hydration.

Step 2: Apply a tiny amount of oil on top While your hair is still damp from the mist, warm a small amount of oil between your palms and gently smooth it over your curls. We're talking a few drops — less than you think you need. The oil seals in the moisture from the mist and adds shine without weighing your curls down.

Step 3: Leave it alone Sound familiar? Same rule applies on refresh days. Let your curls air dry after misting and don't touch them while they resettle. If you need to speed things up, you can lightly diffuse.

WHY THIS WORKS

Rosewater is naturally hydrating and has a pH that's gentle on the hair cuticle. Aloe vera is one of the best natural ingredients for defining curls and calming frizz. Together they give curls just enough moisture to bounce back. The oil on top locks everything in — it's the same logic as layering your skincare.

A FEW TIPS

• Less is more with the oil. Start with 2–3 drops and add more only if needed. Too much and your curls will feel heavy and greasy.

• If your curls are particularly flat or matted from sleep, try flipping your head upside down while you mist for more volume at the roots.

• Pineappling your hair at night (a loose high ponytail on top of your head) before bed makes refresh days so much easier — your curls stay intact while you sleep.
