Shop Naked Eye Beauty This Month to Help Benefit the Surfrider Foundation!

Being a native California girl, going to the beach is a childhood past time for me. Every time I visit the ocean, Im brought back to many memories of spending a day of fun in the sun with my family.

As time goes on in the crazy world we live in, the beaches and oceans have become more and more polluted with trash, carbon waste and many other things creating a biohazard wasteland. It is heartbreaking to think that our health and the health of the oceans sea creatures has become in danger due to human carelessness and irresponsibility.

The grassroots organization Surfrider Foundation based in San Clemente, CA. was created to help benefit Mother Earth's vast oceans by cleaning up and protecting what they love and hope that can be enjoyed by future generations to come.

DIY Beauty : Natural Hand Sanitizer

Making your own hand sanitizer is an easy way to keep your hands soft and germ free with not that much effort or money. Lavender and Tea Tree Essential Oil have incredible antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, plus they smell heavenly together!

Here is my favorite recipe for a natural hand sanitizer...

Supplies:

• 1 oz. spray bottle 
• Tea Tree and Lavender Essential Oil
• Witch Hazel or High Proof Pure Grain Alcohol (Vodka or Everclear)
• Aloe Vera Gel
• Vitamin E Oil (optional...I like to use this as a natural preservative for a longer shelf life, also helps soften the hands!)
• Pyrex beaker or measuring cup (makes it easier to pour)
• Small funnel

Recipe:

1. 2 tablespoons of Witch Hazel 
2. 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera Gel
3. 1/4 teaspoon of Vitamin E
4. 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
5. 30 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
6. Mix everything together well with a spoon
7. Pour mixture into a 1 oz. spray bottle using a small funnel. If this amount does not reach the top of the bottle, just add a little bit more of the Witch Hazel.
8. Shake before use and...Voila! Your hand sanitizer is ready to use. Perfectly compact to keep in your car, purse, or wherever you need to clean and sanitize your hands naturally. 

Beneficial Ingredient : Rose Geranium Essential Oil

Rose Geranium Essential Oil is not only incredibly beautiful in scent, but also has a number of benefits for  clear, glowing skin.

Rose Geranium oil is distilled from the above-ground parts of the plant. Most of the essential oil glands are found in its leaves. After cutting, the plants are partially dried to increase the yield of oil. That way there's less water to be vaporized and extracted from the plant material during the distillation.

Known for its astringent and anti-bacterial/microbial benefits, when applied in skin care geranium helps heal and clear acne and overly oily skin while still promoting new skin cells for normal and dry skin.  

One of my favorite ways to incorporate Rose Geranium in my everyday skin care routine is by applying a 2-3 drops to my beauty oil and facial cream, my favorites are Naked Eye Beauty's Argan Oil and Rosewater Facial Creme. Depending on the season and how my face is feeling overall, applying Rose Geranium Essential Oil works its magic turning over new skin cells and contracting the muscles in my skin to stimulate blood circulation. The result is clear, perfectly balanced and glowing skin.

Beneficial Ingredient : Peppermint Oil

Peppermint has become one of my favorite ingredients for beauty and healthcare within the past year or so. It is such a wonder-ingredient that greatly benefits the body and the mind in more ways than you ever imagined.

A cross between water mint and spearmint grown in mostly Europe and North America, peppermint can be used in tea to relieve irritable bowel syndrome and indigestion, in acne treatmeant to relieve inflammation and redness, and also in aromatherapy to invigorate the soul and relieve congestion in the sinuses during cold and flu season.

Here are a few of my favorite tricks and tips to incorporate peppermint oil into your everyday beauty and heath regime:

• To relieve pain and inflammation from annoying breakouts, dab a small amount of peppermint oil directly on blemish and leave on overnight. By the morning, redness and inflammation will be greatly reduced and leave the skin smoother and softer.
• When you're having one of those groggy, sluggish days where you can't seem to get your head in productive mode, put 2 drops of peppermint oil directly onto the palm of your hand then rub together with your other hand briskly. Cup your hands over your mouth and nose and take 10 deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and then exhaling through your mouth to activate the peppermint and help circulate it through your mouth and lungs. It will instantly lift your spirits and clear your brain to help you get the most of your day. 
• If you're suffering from an upset stomach due to over-eating, stomach flu or just plain old indigestion, drink a cup of peppermint tea or chamomile tea with about 5 drops of peppermint oil. It will help get your digestion in check and help relieve any discomfort you may have. 
• For a refreshing body powder, take about a cup of cornstarch, 1/4 of white clay, 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 10-15 drops of peppermint oil.  Mix together in a bowl then put in a reusable shaker bottle (I like to use old herb and spice bottles from the kitchen). Use when you get out of the shower in areas where you need "refreshment" and throughout the day.
